about
It felt wrong, as a singer songwriter and the current target of all this love and solidarity, to not write and record a song for Operation Something Else. This one has been written especially for all of YOU and all of the other beautiful folk who placed their hands under my chin during what has been a proper mental time. So much love! <3
Bemis were the first band I ever sang in public with, so it felt very apt to ask Gareth Howells to write me a guitar track for this. He wrote and sent it in a day, I wrote the words and melodica line and got the vocals down in a single live take within a couple of hours of receiving his luvvly guitar work. I adore working with him.
It was then sent to my very wonderful friend, Jeremy Paul Carroll at Precision Mastering and, as ever, he's pulled a blinder.
Thank you!
lyrics
In creeps the Autumn. distancing the lifeline
to the Summer, and that season she is mine
This year the palette of the Forest couldn't warm these resting bones
and for everything I'd given, still I stumbled alone
Thank you they're just a couple of words like 'I love you' all too often heard
with no meaning outside what we are taught appreciation's born in feeling and transferred into thought
and hard to transcribe into something meaningful reducing a million words into just a handful
not out of habit do these words spill out of me I truly thank you for looking out for me..
The charms of Winter, horizons laced with death
I'd always welcome them, but this year they had left,
with an uncertain glance, much doubt of what they'd bring
but now I'm ready for the audacities of Spring
Thank you they're just a couple of words like 'I love you' all too often heard
with no meaning outside what we are taught appreciation's born in feeling and transferred into thought
and hard to transcribe into something meaningful reducing a million words into just a handful
not out of habit do these words spill out of me I truly thank you for looking out for me..

Special thanks to Scott Doonican for driving the musical side of Operation SE, all of the musicians who have contributed thus far, to everyone else involved in your secret group, ye basterds, and to the inimitable poet, Lawrence Toms, for letting me borrow 'audacities of Spring'. x

Once again they manage to mix a fine balance of lyrical power with whimsy and musical frivolity and a massive dose of enjoyment. Always worth a listen and a record full of merit. Gavin Hellyer
Terry Venemous is releasing new music every 3 weeks this year. His latest EP is sumptuous art pop with a wry sense of detachment.
